The Story of ShaMaSha

       The traditions of Newfoundland can become a primary source for renewal and healing of individuals and communities.   By combining our family's history in local agriculture with our roots in the indigenous Mi'kmaq community we offer visitors unique cultural experiences in a peaceful, rural setting.
       ShaMaSha! is a traditional Mi'kmaq phrase of greeting, a message of welcome that also honours the deep bonds that connect us with the natural world.
       Our families have been involved in farming, fishing, food preparation and traditional skills for generations.   We want to share our traditions with you.  We can offer you space for retreat, renewal, healing and shared learning.
       Our Four Star guest accommodation, Effie's House, is serene and welcoming.   It offers visitors a variety of rooms and suites suitable for overnight and longer stays.
       Our Centre is a place that brings people together for community-based learning and growth.  Our facilities include a Four Star bed and breakfast home, raised bed garden and greenhouse, and we will soon have a building for workshops, meetings and performances, a traditional root cellar and a fourth building operating as a craft shop and tearoom.
       The ShaMaSha Centre is located in the village of George's Brook, a few miles north of Clarenville, Newfoundland, gateway to the Bonavista Peninsula.    Here we are building a facility for cultural and indigenous tourism, food and garden workshops, healing retreats and cultural gatherings that celebrate:
* Permaculture gardening
* Mi'kmaq cultural knowledge
* Local food traditions
* Health and healing
* Outdoor and marine exploration
* Events focused on local story, art, music and dance
